Doctor Who “Wake Up” Lyrics from “The Rings of Akhaten”

The song:

Rest now…..my warrior.

Rest now, hardship is over.

Live. Wake up. Wake up.

And let the cloak, of life – cling to your bones. Cling to your bones.

Wake up, wake up.

Live. Wake up. Wake up.

And let the cloak, of life – cling to your bones. Cling to your bones

Wake up. Wake up!

Live! Wake up! Wake up!

And let the cloak! Of life! Cling to your bones! Cling to your bones!

Wake up! Wake up!

(Choral section – insert epic speech here.)

Wake up! Wake up!

And here’s the Doctor’s epic speech he made to the planet god:

“I walked away from the Last Great Time War, I marked the passing of the Timelords, I saw the birth of the universe and I watched as time ran out, moment by moment until nothing remained – no time, no space, just ME! I walked in universes where the laws of physics were devised by the mind of a mad man! And I watched universes freeze and creations burn, I have seen things you wouldn’t believe, I have lost things you will never understand! And I know things, secrets that must never be told, knowledge that must never be spoken! Knowledge that will make parasite gods blaze! So come on then! Take it! Take it all baby! Have it! You have it all!”

So err….I think he’s seen quite a bit yeah?

  1. Ruth says:

Thx! I was trying to figure out what she was singing! Great episode!

  2. Rachel says:

I love this song so much! It’s so hauntingly beautiful. I loved Matt Smith, since season 5 episode 1! He’s such an amazing actor and so passionate! When that tear ran down his cheek when he said “And I watched universes freeze and creations burn,”, I completely lost it. His speech was so epic and so emotional, and this is why I love Doctor Who!

  3. NettoHikari1 says:

now matter how many times i play that scene, it’s like what she said…. 11, you’ll cry your eyes out.

  4. Mike says:

This song has been stuck in my head all week!!

Little nitpicky correction… the second line is actually “Rest now, hardship is over.”

    • ineverforget says:

Ahhhhh thanks, I knew it wasn’t my warrior but I just couldn’t quite hear it! Fingers crossed for a soundtrack coming out before the end of the year!

      • Aleigha says:

technically, if you listen its actually ‘rest now, your hardship is over.’ the ‘your’ bit is squeezed in little but its defiantly part of it

  5. Flower says:

I think it is ‘let the cold of light cling to your bones’

    • ineverforget says:

Ahhh really? I’m going to stick to my guns and say cloak – the “k” is quite clear when she sings. But I’m happy to be proved wrong when the soundtrack comes out!

  6. kirra (the shadow theif) says:

i notice that matt smith was crying and i just broke into pecies and i was crying on the bed. my emotions, pooring out

  7. Dave Vaughan says:

it is cloak, but if u need to find out u can go on bbciplayer and watch it with subs…….
    …..

  8. Pavlova says:

does enyone know the name of the little girl who sings the song in the episode?

  9. jonn says:

ok when he says he was in universes where the laws of physics were devised by the mind of a mad man, who is he reffering to? the master? himself?

  10. cat blue says:

Omg I like LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  11. cat blue says:

It was soooo sad when the doctor was crying I lik totally lost it when he cried both me and my bff mette
    did

  12. cat blue says:

    Hello is anyone here

  13. thatguyinthewindow says:

Im not sure which episode but the doctor got into a parrell universe where the mad men is. The tardis is forced into the body of a girl who was already there, sorry cant remember her name but she played belatrix in harry potter. Also the mad men had a collection of if i rember tardis or something to do with it.

    • Matt B. says:

The episode was The Doctors Wife. The TARDIS was forced into the body of Idris who was played by Suranne Jones.
Bellatrix Lestrange of Harry Potter was played by Helena Bonham Carter. Although visually they are very similar not the same person.

    • The woman who played Idris (the girl who hosted the TARDIS’s soul) was not played by Helena Bonham Carter. Idris was played by Suranne Jones. And I’m not sure if that’s the scenario the Doctor is referring to. There are a series of episodes from Patrick Troughton’s era (the Second Doctor) called “The Mind Robber” where the Doctor and his companions are trapped in a Land of Fiction controlled by the Master. (Not sure if it’s like, THE Master but that’s his name)

    • Oriana says:

The name of the episode is: “The Doctor’s Wife”, and the actress is not Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix in Harry Potter), but Surenne Jones :)

    • The number one doctor who fan! says:

The tardis was taken over by “house ” or so called, and Amy and Rory had there minds tricked, mainly Amy,

  14. Rebecca says:

Just watched the episode last night, I fell in love! I’m not a fan of Matt Smith, but this was amazing, and the tear when he said “And I watched universes freeze and creations burn, I have seen things you wouldn’t believe, I have lost things you will never understand” was beautiful! Absoloutly amazing acting in this, although not much seemed to happen, it’s one of my favourite episodes.

  15. eva says:

    one thing
the warrior is “granddad” who can rest and then she sings
    ‘Rest now, watching is over’
implying that he no longer needs to be there to guard the “god”
    watching not hardship. just saying.

  16. Annie says:

Who was singing the Priest’s part in the song?

  17. They should use this for 11′s regeneration scene.
The words make perfect sense: “Rest now…..my warrior.

Rest now, hardship is over.” time for 11 to rest. 11 has been trough a lot, and he is tired.

    “Live. Wake up. Wake up.

And let the cloak, of life – cling to your bones. Cling to your bones.

    Wake up, wake up.

    Live. Wake up. Wake up.

And let the cloak, of life – cling to your bones. Cling to your bones

    Wake up. Wake up!

    Live! Wake up! Wake up!

And let the cloak! Of life! Cling to your bones! Cling to your bones!

    Wake up! Wake up!”

Time for the 12th Doctor to wake up. Time for a new begining. Time for a new day. Time to wake up.

  18. Rory baker says:

Matt smith is epic, just been to the 2013 doctor who proms and heard this song, I loved it.

  19. gilbz says:

I hope they play this song on Matt Smith’s death as the Doctor. :-(

  20. snow wolf says:

i loved this episode i cried when she sang such a lovely voice

  21. Ssc Eyj says:

I am currently listening to the Prom’s rendition. And it just broke my heart. Thank you. I tried making sense of it all and I couldn’t.

  22. Beccy says:

Just been watching the DVD,this has to be my fav episode even after the great following episodes. Thanks for the lyrics, was just looking to see when the soundtrack is out. Thanks again.

  23. Docter who says:

I love this song I made my own version

  24. Charlie says:

Just a brief note after several months from this post: they DID include this song in the soundtrack from series 7. It is called “The Long Song”, and you can find it in the second disk, track number 8. Most certainly one of the best songs in the soundtrack.

  25. Arkatox says:

Positive it’s *please* wake up, not *live* wake up. I’m not sure about some other lines as well, but we should wait for an official lyric release, if there’s going to be one.

  26. Steve Rivera says:

Heya just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let you know a few of the images aren’t loading correctly.
I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve
tried it in two different internet browsers and both show the same results.

  27. Everything is very open with a very clear description of
the issues. It was really informative. Your website is useful.
    Thanks for sharing!

  28. Hallie says:

When he said “I watched as time ran out, moment by moment, until nothing remained… no time, no space, just me!” I felt my heart break…. really showed why he needs his companions, didn’t it?

  29. Hello there! Do you use Twitter? I’d like to follow you if that would be ok.
I’m definitely enjoying your blog and look forward to nnew posts.

  30. The number one doctor who fan! says:

Doctor who is a boss! He is just plain awesome! For goodness sakes! I have a tarsus necklace! And a charm braclet!
    :D

  31. Carlz says:

I love this song. It’s so very beautiful. Well, I love almost any song in Doctor Who. And I never completely understood what she said, maybe because English is not my mother language (although I do a great job at speaking and understanding it) or maybe it’s the chorus that made it a bit harder for me to understand. I don’t know why, but I thought it said “Sontaran” somewhere. I know it doesn’t make sense, it’s just what I heard.

  32. Himadcult says:

Just pointing out that the name of this song is actually The Long Song.

  33. Lea says:

I never cry when I watch TV but Doctor Who made me cry twice.
When David Tennant regenerated and when they sung that beautiful while Matt Smith was giving his epic speech.
And I’m still crying everytime I see it. *0*

  34. userbarna says:

Beautiful piece of Epic writing directly to our hearts, I watch it every now and then and I always cry my eyes out. I found this on YouTube, I think you are going to like it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGcvbuHLw6M (A live performance of this song at the Doctor Who Proms). Good post!

    “Goodnight, Raggedy Man”.

    Regards from Spain

  35. Max Adomat says:

OH MY FING GOD!!! The way that girl sings… i listened to this song for like 30 times in a row…
the doctors speech is cool… but i really want an hour long version just of her singing

  36. Nevey B. says:
